Residents across the MIMAROPA region have expressed strong support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ‘s call for the courtesy resignations of all Cabinet Secretaries, describing it as a sound and strategic move to strengthen governance.
The courtesy resignation directive, which the President referred to as a “mechanism of accountability and trust,” is aimed at giving him a free hand to reassess the performance and integrity of his Cabinet, ensuring that only the most capable and aligned officials remain.
In Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro, resident Ace Dexter Montebon said the President has the right to make such a decision.
“As President, he has the discretion to make these kinds of decisions, and I believe he has thought it through carefully. If he feels it is the right time to replace certain agency heads, we should support him. He knows what is best for our country,” Montebon said.
For private school teacher Bob Vincent Saballo, the move signals a strategic recalibration, saying “He intends to realign and recalibrate the Cabinet. It’s a way to re-evaluate each Secretary’s qualifications. For me, that’s a good move—there should be a thorough reassessment.”
In Marinduque, residents view the directive as a sign of deeper reform.
“I can see that the President is focused on improving the country’s economy and making sure programs reach even the most marginalized sectors,” said Juan Fernandez Jr. of Brgy. Maranlig, Torrijos, added that the aim of President Marcos is to uplift the lives of ordinary Filipinos—and this step shows he means business.
In Romblon province, Odiongan Sangguniang Bayan member Manuel Fernandez Jr. believes the move reflects the President’s responsiveness to the people’s mandate, citing that “this allows for a proper performance review and responds to the people’s voice from the last election. Hopefully, in the next three years, we’ll experience better, more honest, and more efficient service under President Marcos’ administration.”
Meanwhile, Island Press Association of Palawan (IPAP) president Romeo Luzares noted that the shake-up empowers the President to assemble a team that truly supports his vision.
“It’s a good move…it gives the President the chance to choose who stays or goes based on who can truly contribute to his programs. Sana all mag-resign,” he said.
Earlier, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said President Marcos is expected to have a quick decision on the courtesy resignations, adding that the President is considering “performance” and “absence of corruption” in deciding who will stay as Cabinet officials.
