WHY BLOG? I started blogging when Friendster was still the popular social networking site in the early 2000s. Before Facebook became the popular social media platform, and Friendster became a gaming site, the latter was the virtual community in most Asian countries. I am not an IT expert or a programmer, but at that time, I was hooked to exploring and navigating Friendster’s functionalities; and finally able to express myself through writing. Eventually, blogging became my hobby, using other available free domains like WordPress, Blogspot, Blogger, and Weebly. In 2005, I decided to try WordPress as my public domain, and so far, I am enjoying the experience of online writing. The only difference with other bloggers is that I do not monetize- which means that I do not receive any payments (extra income) because I do not allow “ads” to dominate my sites.
MY WAY OF LIVING. As the years passed, my blogging experience became a way of life. From traveling to the love of books and photography (with point and shoot cameras) to painting (using coffee granules and coloring pens), my blogsites are my virtual homes. Blogging also transforms into teaching and learning because I created these sites to augment my face-to-face academic instruction and became a tool for my learning too. Consequently, my blogsites become the learning platforms for my students and even to other people who happen to browse these sites. Unconsciously, I am connected (virtually) with many people, and even they do not communicate or contact me directly. By 2008, I extend my blogging experience with Facebook, and it allows me to share now with my family members, colleagues, and friends through my blogposts on a regular basis.
I am a true “islander” who loves this place (Romblon) where the 4S – sun, sky, sea, and sand meet every day.
BLOG MY TOWN. In June 2015, I decided to return to our home province after spending years in Metropolitan Manila and abroad. As the saying goes, “there is no place like home,” I left the city life and came back to where my heart belongs. For so many years living in the urban areas, I miss being a “probinsyano.” Well, I can easily adjust to the new environment – the rural setting. Romblon will always occupy a special place in my heart, not because this is where I was born or where my parents and siblings live or my high school classmates raised their own families now. But primarily, I am a true “islander” who loves this place (Romblon) where the 4S- sun, sky, sea, and sand meet every day.
I am delighted that starting today, I have another e-home to visit and spend some quality time writing, having the ultimate goal to blog about our home, town, community, or province! Powered by Romblon News Network (RNN), a new virtual place that will also serve as my platform to share my interest in simple living, important events in our home province or elsewhere, and some personal reflections of being a “Romblomanon.” Please do not forget, my readers, that your comments and suggestions are most welcome to make this blogging journey an enjoyable and rewarding experience for you and me. Please continue keeping every one safe and well!
