The Oriental Mindoro Heritage and Cultural Center (OMHCC) opened yesterday for public viewing of arts, artifacts, and historical records that make up the rich heritage of the eight Mangyan tribes in the province.
Located at Brgy. B. Del Mundo, Mansalay, the heritage center houses tangible and intangible heritage assets of the indigenous Mangyan community that are handed down from past generations which include exhibits of traditional clothing materials, baskets, wood carving, bead works, and showcases the Hanunó’o-Mangyan script.
The center was conceptualized and eventually built during the first term of incumbent Governor Humerlito A. Dolor as a symbol of his deep appreciation and prioritization of Mindoro’s IPs.
Provincial Tourism Officer Dr. Dhon Calda said the creation of the center is the first in the Mimaropa region that promotes and preserves the art and culture of Mangyan IPs in the island province of Mindoro.
The project was realized through the joint efforts and cooperation with the provincial government and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
OMHCC is open during weekdays from Monday to Friday within office hours starting 8:00 AM onwards except holidays. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
