The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) MIMAROPA is set to expand its initiatives to create more online job opportunities in the region.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas by the Philippine Information Agency, the DICT revealed its plans to further enhance digital infrastructure, provide online work skills training, and connect local communities to a global workforce, all in a bid to help boost the region’s economy and alleviate unemployment.
DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou V. Delfin said that the move is part of a broader initiative to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas in the country.
“We are committed to ensuring that Filipinos from all corners of the nation, including MIMAROPA, are equipped with the skills and opportunities to participate in the global digital economy. By expanding online job opportunities in MIMAROPA, we are not only providing economic opportunities but also contributing to the region’s digital transformation,” Delfin said.
In a presentation, DICT said that the move aligns with the government’s broader goals of improving internet access, digital literacy, and creating sustainable livelihoods for marginalized communities, especially those in rural and isolated areas.
To support the growth of online jobs, the DICT is launching several training programs focused on in-demand skills for remote work, including digital marketing, web development, data entry, virtual assistance, and customer service. These programs will be accessible to residents of MIMAROPA through online and face-to-face learning modules.
“We will be working closely with local government units (LGUs) and community partners to provide training facilities and access to free Wi-Fi hotspots,” said Delfin, adding that this will ensure that more residents, especially in far-flung areas, can gain the necessary skills to qualify for online jobs.
The DICT will also partner with private sector companies to create a seamless online job marketplace for MIMAROPA residents.
One of the major challenges for online jobseekers in MIMAROPA is the limited internet connectivity. To address this, the DICT is fast-tracking its broadband initiatives in the region, ensuring that communities have access to reliable and affordable internet services.
Through the “Free Wi-Fi for All Program,” the DICT is setting up Wi-Fi hotspots in public spaces such as schools, libraries, and community centers across MIMAROPA.
Also, the agency is collaborating with telecommunication providers to improve internet speeds and coverage, especially in more remote areas of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
“The DICT’s push to expand online jobs in MIMAROPA is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive growth through technology,” Delfin said.
As the region prepares for a more digitally-driven future, the DICT remains committed to ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in the digital revolution. (AS/PIA MIMAROPA)
