The National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Formal Labor and Migrant Workers Sectoral Council is fervently advocating for a P150 wage hike for workers across the Philippines.
In a press statement, the NAPC sectoral council highlighted the pressing economic challenges faced by Filipino workers, exacerbated by the relentless surge in the costs of basic necessities. According to them, this situation has left many grappling with financial instability and the looming threat of poverty.
“The current economic landscape underscores the urgent need for legislative action to address the widening gap between wages and the cost of living,” the press statement emphasized.
The council is pushing for the passing of House Bill 7178, also known as the Wage Recovery Act, authored by House Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza. This bill presents a crucial opportunity to provide much-needed relief to Filipino workers.
“As advocates for the rights and welfare of laborers and migrant workers, we urge the House of Representatives to act swiftly and decisively. The time for deliberation has passed; now is the moment for concrete action. Each day of delay further prolongs the suffering of our fellow Filipinos, who are tirelessly striving to make ends meet amidst increasingly challenging circumstances,” the council stated in support of the bill.
Furthermore, the council called upon lawmakers to prioritize the passage of the bill, asserting that Filipino workers deserve nothing less than equitable compensation and dignified livelihoods.
They reiterated that their position calling for the passage of legislation for a P150 wage hike nationwide has remained steadfast since last year.
