More than 80 students from Guinbirayan National High School in Santa Fe, Romblon, took part in a campus journalism workshop focused on photojournalism. The workshop aimed to provide students with essential knowledge on how to become effective photojournalists.
Paul Jaysent Fos, Information Center Manager of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Romblon, was invited on December 6 as the guest speaker to share his expertise in the field of photojournalism.
Fos provided the students with insights into the fundamentals of photography, including techniques for capturing compelling images, understanding camera settings, lighting, and the importance of composition in visual storytelling.
During the workshop, Fos also highlighted the ethical responsibilities of a photojournalist. He stressed the need for journalists to approach their work with integrity, ensuring that their images are accurate, truthful, and sensitive to the context in which they are taken.
The students also engaged in practical exercises, where they had the chance to apply the skills they learned by taking photographs around the school campus. Fos offered valuable feedback, helping the students refine their techniques and improve their photo composition.
“As photojournalists, your work has the potential to inform, educate, and inspire change,” Fos told the students.
Guinbirayan National High School’s initiative to organize the workshop was aimed at enhancing the students’ journalistic skills and encouraging them to explore the different aspects of campus journalism.
