The administration of Calatrava National High School (CNHS) recently conducted a two-day training workshop aimed at enhancing the journalistic skills of 36 student staffers from The Blue Waves, the school’s official student publication.
The program, designed to boost students’ competencies in campus journalism, covered key areas such as feature writing, news reporting, copyreading, photojournalism, cartooning, and sports writing. Participants were also trained in science and technology writing, which is becoming increasingly relevant in today’s information landscape.
Mario Dela Cruz, Head Teacher III of CNHS, opened the event by emphasizing the critical role of journalism in fostering a culture of balanced, accurate, and responsible reporting.
The Blue Waves adviser, Florida Revilla, noted that the training was particularly timely as the student journalists prepare for the upcoming school intramural meet and the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
The initiative was part of the school’s commitment to uphold excellence in journalism, with plans for ongoing support and mentorship from teachers and alumni.
The workshop also featured guest speakers, including Paul Jaysent Fos of the Philippine Information Agency – Romblon who shared their expertise and experiences in the journalism profession.
