The Department of Agriculture (DA) will soon be rolling out a permanent Kadiwa Store in the province of Romblon to help less fortunate residents affected by rising prices of basic goods.
DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., in an interview in Romblon, said that the earliest possible time for the rollout is October or November this year.
“We will be rolling out a Kadiwa Store here, but the earliest we can set it up might be October or November this year. The challenge here is the logistics—how to transport the goods and the associated costs,” according to Laurel Jr.
Romblon residents who wish to purchase from the DA’s Kadiwa Store can buy agricultural products at affordable prices. Members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), single parents, senior citizens, and PWDs can avail of rice at P29 per kilo at the Kadiwa Store.
The Kadiwa Store aims to provide affordable agricultural products to the community.
“We will also implement a ‘rice for all’ program where the government will buy rice wholesale and sell it without profit,” said Laurel.
This concept aims to make rice cheaper by P5-P7 per kilo compared to market and store prices.
