The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed the concreting of a farm-to-market road (FMR) in Barangay Dulangan, a remote area in Magdiwang, Romblon.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan highlighted that the newly completed two-lane, 393-meter FMR project has greatly improved the movement of local products such as coconuts, vegetables, and root crops to the major markets in the town proper.
“Farming is the main source of livelihood in the community. Through this paved FMR, farmers and local entrepreneurs in the remote areas of Magdiwang will experience smoother, more convenient, and cost-efficient delivery of their farm produce to neighboring towns and municipalities,” Director Pacanan stated.
The project, implemented by the DPWH Romblon District Engineering Office, included the construction of a Portland cement concrete pavement road on an aggregate sub-base course with a polymer-based chemical soil additive.
Additionally, it involved the installation of pipe culverts and sections of grouted riprap and stone masonry to ensure the road’s durability and functionality.
Costing P11.9 million, the farm-to-market road in Barangay Dulangan was funded through the 2023 DPWH Infrastructure Program.
