The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) –Mimaropa has issued an order boosting domestic workers’ monthly wages to enable them to cope up with the rising cost of living in the region.
The wage hike was a result of series of consultations held in 2016 (Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque and Palawan) and in 2017 (Oriental Mindoro and Romblon).
Under Wage Order No.RB-Mimaropa-DW-01, regardless whether live in our live-out, the domestic workers will receive the following:
Two thousand and five hundred pesos (Php 2,500) monthly wage or additional Php 500 in their monthly wages for those who serving households in chartered cities and first class municipalities and receiving Php 2,000 monthly salary; and
Two thousand and five hundred pesos (Php 2,500) or additional Php 1,000 for domestic workers serving households in other municipalities and receiving Php 1,500 monthly salary.
The old wage rate was provided by the Batas Kasambahay.
The wage order will apply to all domestic workers, whether live-in or live-out arrangement, such as but not limited to: general househelp; yaya; cook; laundry person, gardener; and anyone who regularly performs domestic work in one household on occupational basis.
Those not covered in the new wage hike are service providers, family drivers, children under foster family arrangement or any person performing occasional and sporadic but not on occupational basis.
For domestic workers hired through private employment agencies, the principals or clients shall honor the new wage rate and the contract between them and domestics are deemed amended.
The wage order shall not be the basis for reducing salary and benefits and for discouraging domestic workers from negotiating for higher salary.
The wage order does not limit household heads who wanted to provide additional wage for domestic workers based on competency.
