The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) taps the fisherfolk, residents, and the local government units in Occidental Mindoro to amplify the search efforts for the missing cargo vessel M/V Sta. Monica.
PCG Occidental Mindoro said that the help of the local communities will significantly speed up the investigation to locate the vessel.
It can be remembered that sightings of carabao carcasses along the waters in the municipalities of Paluan and San Jose on October 28 and 29, and a lifejacket marked MV STA MONICA A-1 in Mamburao town were reported by local fisherfolk and residents.
Consequently, PCG Palawan initiated aerial searches to the east of Taytay, Palawan, and from San Jose to Paluan, Occidental Mindoro to intensify their search.
PCG Occidental Mindoro also conducts shoreline and sea patrols to gather information that may lead to the missing vessel.
M/V Sta. Monica has reportedly been missing since October 27, the onset of the typhoon Kristine onslaught. The location of the vessel, carrying 10 passengers and carabaos, is still unknown.
Those who may have information that may help with the investigation, particularly fisherfolk traversing Occidental Mindoro and Palawan waters and locals in shoreline communities, may report to the nearest PCG Office or contact their local government. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
