The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA has promptly extended aid to families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine across the region.
So far, 1,500 food packs have been distributed to residents affected by flooding in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro. In total, 3,623 families in the province have received assistance from the agency.
In Romblon, food packs have been provided to families evacuated from Magdiwang, San Fernando, and San Agustin, while 862 families in Buenavista, Marinduque, also received aid.
The latest report from DSWD MIMAROPA showed that 8,563 families across Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and Marinduque have been affected by the storm. Of these, 1,744 families are currently staying in evacuation centers, while 462 families are sheltering with relatives.
DSWD MIMAROPA said that more than 103,000 family food packs are ready in various warehouses across the region, ensuring swift response in case of further needs.
“We are fully prepared for the effects of Tropical Storm Kristine, with P2.6 million in standby funds and over 102,000 family food packs worth P90.9 million,” according to Rubyn Ralph Fajarito of DSWD MIMAROPA.
Also, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has provided hot meals to stranded passengers at ports in Romblon, Marinduque, and Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) MIMAROPA reported that all roads and bridges in the region remain passable to all types of vehicles, and ongoing assessments of infrastructure damage are being conducted. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
