The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Office MIMAROPA heightened its security measures across the region’s detention facilities — including in Romblon — to ensure peace and order during the Holy Week observance.
According to a press release from BJMP-MIMAROPA, Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said surprise inspections and greyhound operations were carried out in various provincial jails, including those in Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Marinduque.
“These surprise operations are part of our preventive approach to safeguard our facilities, detect contraband, and reinforce security protocols during religious holidays when vigilance is most critical,” Anglo explained.
The operations aimed to confiscate contraband such as illegal drugs, weapons, and unauthorized electronic gadgets, while also ensuring the rights and welfare of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are upheld.
Anglo also noted that the agency activated “Oplan: Tanikala,” a seasonal security initiative implemented during Holy Week and other major holidays. The program involves stricter perimeter security, accounting of firearms and ammunition, greyhound inspections, and enforcement of camp defense protocols to deter potential threats.
“These efforts reflect BJMP-MIMAROPA’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure and humane custodial environment, especially during significant religious occasions,” Anglo added.
The BJMP reassured the public that detention centers, including those in Romblon, remain under tight watch to maintain peace and order throughout the year. (PR)
