The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) MIMAROPA was able to help 172 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to return to the Philippines in 2022.
Data from the DMW MIMAROPA showed that they have assisted 60 OFWs in 2022, 61 in 2023, and 51 this year.
According to DMW, “emergency repatriation is carried out in the event of any political unrest or natural calamities.”
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on Tuesday, September 3, DMW Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Rhenejim Jhun A. Dela Cruz said that the agency offers reintegration programs to assist in returning OFWs and their families.
“Mostly po, ito ay mga livelihood assistance. We are giving financial assistance; we are requiring them to undergo entrepreneurial development training or the EDD para turuan po natin sila kung paano gastusin at palaguin ang isang negosyo,” he said.
The DMW said that in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), they offer the AssistWELL Program – a package of reintegration assistance/services to ensure the successful reintegration of OFWs returning to the country. The ‘WELL’ in the AssistWELL Program stands for Welfare, Employment, Livelihood, and Legal services.
Moreover, DMW MIMAROPA OIC-Regional Director Jonathan A. Gerodias said that they will continue to support the OFWs in returning to the Philippines.
“Our team is always ready to support our OFWs in distress and ensure their return to the Philippines whenever necessary,” he said. (AS/PIA MIMAROPA)
