The Tablas Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TIELCO) has reportedly suffered a data breach, according to cybersecurity advocacy group Deep Web Konek (DWK). The breach is attributed to a hacking group known as “Lootz” from Deathnote Hackers.
DWK revealed that the attack exposed over 200 TIELCO employee records, including sensitive information such as names, account numbers, addresses, and attendance logs. Additionally, leaked customer data, mainly affecting senior citizens, included account numbers, meter serial numbers, billing details, and payment deadlines. This raises significant concerns over potential identity theft or fraudulent activities for thousands of consumers.
In response, TIELCO acknowledged awareness of the reports circulating online but assured the public that its operations remain unaffected.
“We want to assure the public that TIELCO’s operations remain unaffected, and all exposed data is being handled with the utmost care,” the company stated.
They further emphasized that they are coordinating with the appropriate authorities to investigate and address the incident.
“Rest assured, your data is secure and intact under our vigilant management,” TIELCO added in its official statement.
The breach underscores the growing risks associated with cybersecurity in utility services. Experts caution consumers and employees to be vigilant for signs of identity theft, phishing attempts, or unauthorized account activity.
