The municipality of Romblon, Romblon is celebrating its 394th Founding Anniversary today, marking nearly four centuries of rich history, culture, and progress.
As part of the celebration, Mayor Gard Montojo declared a special non-working holiday in the town through Executive Order No. 13-2025, allowing residents to fully participate in the festivities.
The municipality traces its origins back to 1631, when it was formally established as a “pueblo” (town) during the Spanish era by virtue of a Superior Decree issued by Governor-General Juan Niño de Tabora. That same year, the Parroquia de Romblon (Romblon Parish) was founded and dedicated to San Jose, marking the beginning of the town’s deep-rooted Catholic traditions.
Mayor Montojo emphasized that the Founding Anniversary is a significant event traditionally observed in the municipality, serving as an opportunity to reflect on Romblon’s past and honor its historical milestones.
The local government has lined up various activities to commemorate the occasion today.
