The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has inaugurated Phase III of Romblon State University’s (RSU) Smart Isla Project, a P21.4 million initiative aimed at enhancing the university’s information and management system to support quality education and efficient learning delivery.
The project, funded under CHED’s Institutional Development and Innovation Grant, seeks to modernize RSU’s digital infrastructure, ensuring seamless access to educational resources for students and faculty, regardless of circumstances such as the pandemic.
CHED Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III, who attended the launching ceremony, highlighted the importance of investing in higher education institutions, particularly in island provinces like Romblon, to bridge gaps in access to quality learning.

RSU President Dr. Merian Catajay-Mani shared that through this initiative, the university has acquired data servers, digital duplicators, computer desktops, microbiology equipment, and post-harvest equipment, which will enhance research, instruction, and administrative processes.
Mani added that this initiative is seen as a step toward a future where quality education is more accessible. The Smart Isla Project aligns with RSU’s vision of becoming a Smart Campus, ensuring that students, faculty, and stakeholders benefit from a more efficient and technology-driven learning environment.
Meanwhile, Mani also announced during the ceremony that a P750 million fund has been allotted for Phase III of RSU’s Smart Campus Program under the General Appropriations Act. This funding is expected to further expand the university’s digital transformation, reinforcing its goal of becoming a leading smart campus in the region.
