In Romblon, where the vibrant island life intertwines with the need for accessible healthcare, Irene Morgado stands out as a dedicated advocate for community health. A registered nurse and grassroots leader, Morgado passionately works to capacitate Barangay Health Centers, ensuring they serve as the first line of defense for the province’s healthcare needs.
Morgado, who is running for board member in Romblon’s second district, envisions a robust healthcare system where Barangay Health Centers are the go-to resource for barangay residents seeking medical assistance.
“Barangay Health Centers should be the to-go area when health services are needed by barangay residents and should only be followed by hospitals and infirmary,” according to Morgado during a recent interview.
She emphasized that many cases currently handled by hospitals could be addressed at the barangay or municipal level, easing the burden on hospital nurses and improving efficiency in healthcare delivery.
Morgado’s commitment to healthcare goes beyond advocacy; she actively brings services to the people. She has organized and led various medical missions across barangays on Tablas Island, facilitating check-ups, consultations, and the distribution of medicines.
Her hands-on approach ensures that even the most vulnerable members of the community, such as senior citizens, receive the care and attention they need.
Morgado also serves as the Romblon coordinator for Heart Warriors of the Philippines, a national organization dedicated to supporting Filipinos in their fight against heart disease. Through this role, she helps connect individuals with resources and support systems, addressing one of the leading health concerns in the country.
Irene Morgado’s work is driven by her deep understanding of the healthcare challenges faced by Romblon residents. Her dual role as a registered nurse and community leader allows her to see the gaps in the system and address them effectively.
“Natatambakan ng trabaho ang mga nurses, doctors at staffs sa mga ospital dahil marami ang dinadala sa mga ospital na puwede namang magamot sa mga barangay at municipal health centers,” she said, stressing the need to strengthen healthcare at the grassroots level.
