Senator Christopher “Bong” Go extended support to displaced workers in Odiongan, San Fernando, and Magdiwang, Romblon from September 4 to 6.
During the relief efforts, Go reaffirmed his deep connection to the province, referring to himself as an “adopted son” of Romblon, and expressed gratitude to the locals for allowing him to serve them.
Go’s Malasakit Team distributed essential items such as snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, and sports equipment to 180 displaced workers during activities at the Odiongan Covered Court, San Fernando Evacuation Center, and Magdiwang Multipurpose Hall. Additionally, selected beneficiaries received shoes.
As part of the initiative, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provided additional livelihood assistance through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, ensuring further support for the workers.
In line with his ongoing advocacy for creating job opportunities for marginalized communities, Go highlighted Senate Bill No. 420, which seeks to establish the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), aimed at providing temporary employment to rural residents who have lost their jobs. He also emphasized his support for increasing the daily minimum wage nationwide by P100 through Senate Bill No. 2534.
Go encouraged individuals with health concerns to utilize the Malasakit Center at Romblon Provincial Hospital. The Malasakit Center program, institutionalized through Republic Act No. 11463, provides a one-stop shop for patients to access medical assistance programs. With 166 centers nationwide, the initiative has helped around ten million Filipinos reduce their medical expenses.
