The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH CHD) MIMAROPA recently concluded a three-day vaccination and immunization advocacy campaign on Sibuyan Island, Romblon. The campaign utilized a creative approach through a Puppet Theater Show to educate parents and children about the importance of vaccination.
The puppet show provided an engaging way to convey vital health information, complemented by brief discussions about vaccines and the diseases they help prevent. This initiative was organized in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) Romblon, the Provincial Health Office of Romblon, and other local partners.
In addition to the Puppet Theater, the campaign featured various health services, including vaccination activities, basic oral health services, distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), vitamin dispensing, laboratory services, and more.
This visit to Romblon marked the final leg of the PIA Puppeteers’ campaign across the MIMAROPA region.
In an interview with PIA Palawan last month, Romalyn Rancho, DOH-MIMAROPA-CHD Health Education and Promotion Officer III, emphasized the effectiveness of this new “enter-educate approach” (entertainment and education) in vaccination campaigns.
“This is a new strategy that we call an enter-educate approach to not only deliver the usual lectures but also to make the message more appealing and memorable for all ages, targeting both children and adults, by instilling the importance of vaccination through theater play,” Rancho explained.
The campaign specifically targeted children aged 0-59 months who had not yet completed their vaccinations in previous “Chikiting Ligtas Vaccination Campaigns.”
