The Provincial Health Office of Romblon has issued a warning to the public about the potential increase in dengue cases in the province, especially during the ongoing rainy season.
In an interview with PIA Romblon on Friday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Lino Viola emphasized the likelihood of a rise in dengue cases if mosquito breeding sites are not eliminated.
“We do expect that from August, cases could significantly increase, especially if mosquito breeding sites are not eradicated,” said Viola.
Currently, Romblon has recorded 277 dengue cases, with the highest number reported in the town of San Agustin, which has 91 cases as of July 7. The town of Cajidiocan on Sibuyan Island has reported one fatality.
The Provincial Health Office is continuously coordinating with local governments to conduct misting operations in barangays with high dengue cases.
The public is reminded to adhere to the Department of Health’s 5S strategy to prevent the spread of dengue. This includes Search and destroy, Self-protection measures, Seeking early consultation, Support fogging or spraying during outbreaks, and Sustained hydration.
Dr. Viola urges anyone experiencing dengue symptoms to seek medical attention promptly at their local Rural Health Units (RHUs).
“If you experience dengue symptoms, consult a doctor immediately, even if it’s just the second day of fever. This is to ensure early testing and treatment, especially if you are in an area with a high number of dengue cases. Our RHUs typically have test kits available to quickly determine if you have dengue,” Dr. Viola advised.
