The government is undertaking more key infrastructure projects across the Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa) region to boost its economy, according to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
During the distribution of financial aid in Palawan on Thursday, President Marcos said the government is not just keen on providing social services. It also wants to ensure infrastructure programs are implemented in the region, he added.
Priority projects of the administration include the Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Aborlan (dam component at 95.15 percent completion rate) and the road widening of the Dr. Damian Reyes Road in Marinduque, with a 45.45 percent completion rate.
The Balabac Military Runway is nearing completion at 89.30 percent, the President added.
According to the President, other priority infrastructure projects are those that would open the region to new investments, ease transportation, and strengthen the tourism sector.
There are ongoing negotiations with the private proponent on the planned Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project to improve airport facilities and services.
For the Pag-asa Island Airport Development Project, procurement of land for the runway extension is underway. Once completed, the project is expected to provide an efficient mode of travel to and from the island.
Pag-asa Island is considered a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area. PND
