The Municipality of San Jose, Romblon is set to establish an Eco-Tourism Park after winning the Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC) initiated by the Department of Tourism.
San Jose is one of the 15 local government units (LGUs) in Luzon that were shortlisted from 90 LGUs that submitted a total of 98 proposals from across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
A total of P180 million will be awarded to these 15 LGUs.
The final approval is pending from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Board, and once granted, an official memorandum of agreement (MOA) will be signed among the LGUs, DOT, and TIEZA for the initiation of the projects.
The Tourism Champions Challenge aims to stimulate tourism development at the local level, and San Jose's success in securing the grant is a significant accomplishment in its pursuit of sustainable tourism initiatives.
The program, launched earlier this year, seeks to incentivize and empower LGUs to contribute to positioning the Philippines as a prominent tourism destination in Asia.
