A low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will continue to bring rains in most parts of the country on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 4:00 a.m. the LPA was spotted some 465 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (11.6N, 129.7E) and is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Visayas and Mindanao.
Aurelio said the LPA has a slim chance to intensify ito tropical cyclone.
However, the state weather bureau said it continues to monitor the LPA.
Once the LPA intensifies into a tropical cyclone, it will be locally named “Ambo”, the first tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.
However, he said the LPA will enhance the ITCZ that will bring rains over Visayas and Minadanao.
For Sunday’s forecast, Aurelio said the LPA’s presence will enhance the ITCZ, bringing cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Eastern and Central Visayas and Mindanao.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from southwest to west will prevail over Palawan and western Visayas and from southeast over the rest of Luzon. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the west to northwest with slight to moderate seas.
The state weather bureau has not issued gale warning which means it is safe for fisherfolks to venture into the seas. (PNA)
