Some students of Romblon State University (RSU) who participated in an unauthorized rally on Tuesday have publicly apologized for their actions.
The students, who are members of the College of Education Student Organization (CEDSO), said that they never intended to disrupt the school's operations or harm its reputation. They said that the rally initially began as a small forum intended to address concerns regarding the new criteria, but that it escalated into an unauthorized rally due to a lack of communication and coordination.
“We deeply regret our actions and the negative impact they have had on the University community, including the faculty, staff, and our fellow students,” according to an apology posted on CEDSO Facebook page.
Meanwhile, a document obtained by Romblon News Network from a source shows that a fact-finding committee will be established to examine the complaint filed by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Emelyn Montoya.
The committee is expected to issue a verdict before the graduation ceremony.
According to the RSU student handbook, students who engage in acts of subversion and insurgency, such as unauthorized demonstrations, rallies, and boycotting of classes, may face disciplinary action, including suspension.
The students who participated in the rally are asking the university to suspend the implementation of the new guidelines for Latin honors. However, RSU President Merian Mani has said that there will be no changes to the guidelines, which she said were made after careful consideration.
The administration of RSU is yet to issue a statement regarding this new development.
