Romblon State University (RSU) is collaborating with Dalhousie University in Canada to advance the smart agriculture program in Romblon.
Recently, the two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Dalhousie University’s Halifax Campus. The MOU was signed by RSU President Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani and Dalhousie University’s Vice President of Government and Global Relations, Mr. Matt Hebb. The ceremony was witnessed by Romblon Congressman Eleandro Madrona and Ambassador Maria Austria, the Ambassador of the Philippines to Canada.
“This MOU marks a new chapter in the ongoing collaboration between RSU and Dalhousie University, focusing initially on the field of smart agriculture. The agreement outlines a commitment from both institutions to cooperate in the development of smart agriculture initiatives at RSU and the province of Romblon at large,” according to a press release by RSU.
In her statement, Ambassador Austria noted that the new partnership adds to a long history of educational cooperation between Nova Scotia and the Philippines.
The delegation from Romblon also visited Dalhousie University’s partners in Canada to benchmark various smart agriculture initiatives. One notable example of smart farming in Canada, involving Dalhousie University, is the use of artificial intelligence to monitor and predict potato nutrition in real-time.
