The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Special Area for Agricultural Development (BFAR-SAAD) Program MIMAROPA recently provided significant livelihood interventions to 157 fisherfolks from seven fisherfolk associations (FAs) in San Andres, Romblon.
BFAR SAAD Mimaropa said that this initiative is part of the Food Production and Livelihood Program (FPL) aimed at transforming beneficiaries into entrepreneurs.
The FPL, a component of the SAAD Program, involves providing agricultural and fishery goods and services packaged into transformative livelihood projects. These projects are designed to empower beneficiaries, enabling them to enhance their production capabilities and develop entrepreneurial skills.
The beneficiaries received a variety of essential tools and materials to support their fishing activities, including 80 units of marine engines, 136 sets of bottom set gill nets, 5 sets of fish aggregating devices (payao), 25 heavy-duty underwater LED flashlights with chargers, 3 sets of boat repair materials, and 10 sets of tuna handlines.
The turnover ceremony was facilitated by the local government unit, with key officials including Municipal Vice Mayor Joel Ibañez and Municipal Agriculturist Dario Gacu.
