Nagbigay ng position paper sa Munisipyo ng Odiongan ang Odiongan Ministerial Association (OMA) na binubuo ng iba’t ibang simbahan para ipahayag ang kanilang pagtutol sa ilang ipinapanukalang batas.
Ayon sa kanilang sulat na pinadala kay Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic, kanilang tinututulan ang Absolute Divorce Bill, Same Sex Marriage Bill, at ang Sexual Orientation, Gender Identify or Expression (SOGIE) bill dahil tingin nila ito ay discriminatory at labag sa constitution.
“Passing the SOGIE bill for upholding the rights of the members of the LGBTQ community will, in turn, pose threats against the rights of people from religous and faith based groups, educational institutions, and business entities, just to name a few,” ayon sa bahagi ng sulat.
“We believe that passing the SOGIE bill is contrary to the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of religion, as any speech or belief that is perceived discriminatory by the memebrs of the LGBTQ community may hold person criminally liable,” dagdag pa sa sulat.
Ayon sa grupo, hindi na umano kailangan ng bagong batas para sa LGBT community dahil marami na umanong batas sa Pilipinas na makakapagbigay ng pantay na pagturing sa lahat ng tao, halimbawa umano nito ang Civil Code of the Philippines, Labor code of the Philippines, at ang Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.
“We respect the lief that the members of the LGBT community choose to live. However, to make us subscribe to their choices under threats of severe penalties is simply unfair, discriminatory, and clearly a violation of our own rights,” ayon sa grupo.
“In the name of social order, equal protection of the law, and of the protection and preservation of the Filipino family, we unitedly stand against the passing of the SOGIE bill, as well as same sex marriage bill, and the absolute divorce bill,” dagdag pa ng grupo.
Ang nasabing paglapit umano ng grupo sa lokal na pamahalaan ng Odiongan dala ang kanilang position paper at ang nalikum nilang pirma mula sa iba’t ibang simbahan, ay isa rin sa paraan para maipakita ang kanilang pagkontra sa mga ordinansa na posibleng mabuo sa bayan ng Odiongan na kapareho ng mga nabanggit na bills.
