All units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now on heightened alert to ensure security this Holy Week.
This is what PNP Officer in Charge, Deputy Chief for Administration Police Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia announced, where more than 77,000 police personnel will be deployed in populated areas to provide security to those taking vows as well as those taking a stroll and vacationing.
The heightened alert status is effective starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 2 and will last until 8 a.m. on April 11.
Holy Week is commemorated annually, so it should be ensured that there is no violence or trouble caused by some groups.
PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said that the PNP has not received any threats at the moment.
Because of this, Sermonia said he formed red teams that will inspect the deployment of the police.
Sermonia left it up to the Police Regional Offices to set a higher alert level depending on the situation in their area of responsibility. (PIA-NCR)
