An official of the Provincial Health Office of Romblon province urged parents to ensure that their children received all Department of Health’s recommended vaccines, and to follow vaccination schedule specially during the child’s first year.
Provincial Health Officer Dra. Ederlina Aguirre told Philippine Information Agency- Romblon that vaccination is the best solution to avoid vaccine-preventable diseases like polio, measles, diphtheria, and tetanus.
“We have available vaccines in all health centers in the province and vaccination should be in accordance with the schedule after giving birth to a child. Example, polio vaccine, this must be given to infants in its sixth week, 10th week, and 14th week.” she added.
The statement of Dra. Aguirre came weeks after the news about the reemergence of polio breakout in some parts of the country.
She also encouraged parents and caregivers to allow children receive free immunization vaccines under the DOH’s School-Based Immunization Program.
According to Department of Health, only 56.47 percent were fully immunized out of the 8,041 eligible children in the province of Romblon on 2018 but the Provincial Health Office are now doing their best to at least immunize 95 percent of the eligible population in the province this year.
“Let’s help each other. No man is an island. Mindanao and Laguna’s problem in polio is also our problem because if we don’t act now, we will have the same problem,” Dra. Aguirre said.
