Nagbabala si Congressman Eleandro Madrona na posibleng magkaroon ng power shortage sa Tablas Island sa Romblon kung sakaling mag scale down ng operasyon ang Suweco Tablas Energy Corp. (STEC) dahil sa pagkakalugi.
Ayon sa press statement na inilabas ni Congressman Madrona sa national media nitong Huwebes, sinabi nitong simula February 15 ay mag scale down ng operasyon ang STEC dahil sa kalugihan resulta ng mababang rate na inaprubahan ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Ang inaprubhahan umanong rate ng ERC ay hindi sapat para ma-maintain ng STEC ang kanilang operasyon sa kasalukuyang kapasidad nito.
Upang maiwasan ang inasahang power crisis sa papalapit na tag-init, nanawagan ang mambabatas sa ERC na lutasin ang problema ng STEC.
“On behalf of the members, consumers of Tablas Island Electric Cooperatives, Inc., I’m appealing to the ERC, headed by Chair Agnes Devanadera to immediately resolve and give the final rate of STEC,” ayon sa Congressman.
“I understand that the combination of the decisions of the ERC in charging solar rate for diesel rate in excess of the generation mix and computing the generation mix on a monthly basis led to the losses of STEC,” pahayag pa nito.
Sinabi rin ni Madrona na ang mandato ng ERC ay protektahan ang consumers gayun na rin ang mga investors.
“Should STEC reduce its operations, there will now be a power crisis, and it will be the consumers who will also be primarily affected and therefore ERC must act immediately,” pahayag ng kongresista.
Kung sakaling manyari ito, nakakahiya umano ito dahil mismong si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang nanguna sa inagurasyon ng solar plant ng Suweco Tablas Energy Corp. sa Odionga noong August 2019.
