The Regional Development Council (RDC) MIMAROPA approved and adopted the MIMAROPA Regional Development Plan (RDP) and Regional Development Investment Program (RDIP) for 2023-2028 during its special meeting last 10 February 2023, including support to the implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion (NSFI) 2022-2028.
As the region’s development blueprint, the RDP will bring back MIMAROPA to its original growth trajectory through social and economic transformation. The Plan seeks to promote job creation and accelerate poverty reduction, enhance connectivity through infrastructures to link markets and urban centers, and keep food and prices low and stable.
Meanwhile, the RDIP, as an accompanying document of the RDP, will serve as basis for determining the region’s proposed priority investments for inclusion in the government’s national budget and other sources of financing.
In his opening remarks, RDC MIMAROPA Chairperson and Romblon Governor Jose R. Riano expressed his gratitude to NEDA MIMAROPA for spearheading the formulation of the RDP and RDIP. He also extended his deepest appreciation to all government agencies, private sector, and other stakeholders for their valuable contribution to the successful completion of the region’s development plan and investment program for the next six years.
RDC Vice Chairperson and NEDA MIMAROPA Regional Director (RD) Agustin C. Mendoza presented the highlights of the RDP, including the regional spatial development framework and the proposed regional spatial strategy.
RD Mendoza also presented the RDIP underscoring the major programs and projects that would significantly contribute to the attainment of the RDP’s goals, objectives, and strategies. The RDIP has an estimated total investment requirement amounting to PhP878.55 billion.
Moreover, RDC Secretary and NEDA MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director Apollo Edwin S. Pagano presented the salient features of the NSFI 2022-2028, including its priority initiatives that would ensure that measures, policies, programs, and other efforts of the government on financial inclusion are coordinated and harmonized.
The 81st RDC Full Council Meeting will be held on March 24, 2023.
