The local government of Cajidiocan, Romblon has stepped in to assist an indigenous family living in a makeshift shelter after their story went viral online, prompting public concern and calls for help.
Fatima, along with her five children and ailing husband, has been residing in a temporary shelter in Lumbang Weste due to extreme poverty. After their situation gained attention on social media, Mayor Greggy Ramos confirmed that the family is now under the care of barangay officials.
Fatima’s husband, who is suffering from polio, will be transported to Odiongan to receive further medical treatment, while her children have undergone medical check-ups and were provided with vitamins by town doctors.
Aside from medical assistance, the LGU also provided groceries, hygiene kits, and clothing to help the family with their daily needs. To ensure they have a more stable living condition, the LGU will be sending construction materials to help rebuild their home.
