The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reminded the public to be wary of the schemes of unscrupulous individuals ahead of Valentine’s Day celebration.
PNP chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, said scammers, pickpockets, and armed robbers may take advantage of the occasion as couples are expected to flock to malls, amusement parks, restaurants, and other places.
“As it is usual to some of our fellow Filipinos to celebrate Valentine’s Day with their loved ones, we would like to remind them to be wary about these criminal activities,” Albayalde said in a statement.
He said police visibility will be beefed up in all public places on Thursday.
Albayalde also urged the public to report to the nearest police station any suspicious person and act, and to be vigilant at all times.
Meanwhile, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group also reminded the public not to post any activity and happenings on their social media platforms as “akyat-bahay” groups may be monitoring social media accounts for possible targets. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
