President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has issued Proclamation No. 665, moving the special non-working holiday for Ninoy Aquino Day from August 21 (Wednesday) to August 23 (Friday) in 2024.
The adjustment is aimed at creating a long weekend from August 23 to August 26, which is National Heroes’ Day, a regular holiday.
The proclamation, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on behalf of the President, amends the previously issued Proclamation No. 368, which outlined the regular holidays and special non-working days for 2024.
The shift is intended to promote domestic tourism while maintaining the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino Day, which commemorates the assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has been tasked with issuing the appropriate circular to implement this change in the private sector.
