Romblon’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Rachel Bañares, representing the first district, officially tendered her resignation effective Friday, March 1.
During her guesting on Romblon News Network’s Mata ng Bayan Online, Atty. Bañares confirmed her resignation, citing personal reasons for her decision.
“I resigned for personal reasons. Since my husband passed away, life has been quite challenging for me, and I feel like I can no longer fulfill my duties as a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,” Bañares expressed.
“If I can’t perform my duties properly due to constant anxiety, I would prefer to step down from my position,” she added.
Before joining the provincial board, Bañares served as a three-term Mayor of the Municipality of Corcuera.
While Bañares recommended her son as her successor, she noted that the final decision lies with her political party, the Nationalista Party, chaired in the province by Congressman Eleandro Madrona.
