Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic has been selected as one of the participants of the International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) Women's Political Leadership Programme 2023, a program fully funded by the government of Sweden.
The 12-month training focuses on developing political leadership skills and is open only to women who hold an elected seat in a local government.
In a Facebook post, Mayor Fabic said that last week she attended the first workshop held in Western Cape, South Africa.
“I learned a lot from the program, especially about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Change Theory, Project Planning, and Problem Analysis. The discussion with my fellow mayors from different countries was also good,” according to the Mayor.
The training is implemented in cooperation with the Swedish Association of Local Authoroties and Regions (SALAR).
Mayor Fabic is one of the only 24 women politicians admitted to the training that aims to empower leaders with improved leadership skills, utilize the full power and influence of their position, political participation among marginalized groups, enhance knowledge regarding the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and give them access to a network with women in a similar position.
