Second termer councilor Rommel Millar of Buenavista, Marinduque, is one of the 8 councilors who won a seat last May 2022 elections.
The Municipality Buenavista cannot achieve inclusive growth if its agriculture sector continues to be among the poorest.
This prompted Councilor Millar as the committee chairperson on agriculture to ensure that the agri-sector is prioritized through specific development programs that will lead to inclusive agricultural growth and eventually, economic growth.
“The municipal government through the Sangguniang Bayan should prioritize policies and programs on how to ease the burden on our farming and fisheries, especially in today’s rising prices of commodities,” according to Millar.
“In this 16th Sangguniang Bayan, we will submit policy recommendations to achieve high productivity and competitiveness in agriculture, particularly in pushing for farm consolidation, strengthening food systems, and ensuring a trade and industry policy environment that fosters a level of competition, and lower the costs of doing agribusiness,” Millar added.
The historic passage of the Fisheries Code of the Municipality of Buenavista which councilor Millar chaired last 15th Saggunian is a success for the people of a 4th class municipality, this is why transforming the municipality’s farming and food systems is even more critical during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure strong food value chains, affordable and nutritious food and a vibrant rural economy.
