At least 100 participants from five municipalities in Romblon province participated on the 5th Provincial Fire Olympics organized by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Romblon on Tuesday, August 13 at Romblon National High School, Romblon, Romblon.
“Ang isang team ay may 20 personel na dumalo, so aabot ng halos 100 fire volunteers na nanggaling pa sa ibang bayan ang dumalo. Iba pa rito ‘yung mga personel ng iba’t ibang bombero sa mga munisipyo,” said Major Herald Castillo, Romblon Provincial Fire Marshal.
Fire volunters from the town of Romblon, Odiongan, Calatrava, San Agustin, and Alcantara participated on the said olympics.
Major Castillo told PIA-Romblon that the main objective of the activity is to enhanced the firefighting skills of volunteer fire brigades, who are helping BFP personnel in responding to a fire scene.
“Volunteers need to be fast because this is a time-based competition, where they need to pass these three stages: hose laying and replacement of busted hose, bucket relay, and flammable liquid fire extinguishment,” Major Castillo added.
The team from Romblon Fire Volunters proclaimed as the competition’s over-all champion, bringing home a cash prize and a certificate. Winning team will also represent Romblon province on the Regional Fire Olympics 2019 to be held this September in Odiongan, Romblon.
In addition to the games, the Bureau of Fire Protection – Romblon also held a lecture at the school where they provided students and teachers with tips on fire prevention. (PJF/PIA-MIMAROPA/Romblon)
