Department of Interior and Local Government, together with the People’s National Movement to Federalism (PENAMFED), will launch a ‘federalism information campaign’ in the inception of the nationwide Barangay Assembly Day on Oct. 9, 2016.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno on Friday said that the massive information campaign on the launching of first Barangay Assembly Day in the current administration would cover the overall benefits of federalism in our country.
The information campaign on federalism was approved earlier by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the People’s National Movement to Federalism (PENAMFED) through a memorandum of agreement.
In line with this, Sueno directed the barangay officials to get the pulse of their constituents as the nationwide assembly day is the perfect opportunity to push the desire of President Duterte for the federal shift of government in the Philippines.
“Even at this early stage when talks are still ongoing about federalism, barangay officials can already ask their constituents what they think about it and how it would affect their lives,” he said.
Pursuant to the existing laws, barangays should hold their respective assembly days to report their accomplishments and discuss their plans and issues with their constituents every last Saturday of March and the second Sunday of October of every year. (Aira May Dizon/PNA)
