Some 1,300 mangrove seedlings were planted in the Ginablan Wildlife, Mangrove and Birds Sanctuary in Romblon, Romblon as part of the celebration of the 116th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.
Miguel D. Cortez, Coastal Resource Management Officer said that over 300 personnel from various national government agencies, provincial and municipal employees participated in the coastal clean-up and mangrove tree planting activity held recently.
He said that the benefits of mangrove include protection from waves and water movement, reduction of soil erosion, and these serve as breeding ground for several species of plants and animals.
Municipal Government of Romblon prepared some 1,300 seedlings which were ‘bakhaw lalaki’ and ‘bakhaw babae’ species which were used for the tree planting.
The mangrove tree-planting activity was sponsored by the Municipal Government of Romblon and this was part of the month-long celebration of the Philippine Civil Service that aimed to encourage and inspire servant-heroes nationwide.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Sigaw ng Lingkod Bayani: Malasakit Para sa Taumbayan, Kapwa Kawani, at Kalikasan.
