Senator Christopher “Bong” Go's Malasakit Team provided much-needed assistance to displaced workers in Sibuyan Island, Romblon, on July 10 and 11.
In his video message, Senator Go, an adopted son of the province of Romblon, emphasized the critical role of government support for disadvantaged Filipinos. He highlighted the importance of extending aid to those heavily impacted by economic downturns brought about by the pandemic and other challenges.
With Go’s collaboration with the LGU, the event saw representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducting an orientation for qualified individuals about the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance designed to provide emergency employment for displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers for a minimum period of 10 days up to a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work.
Senator Go stressed the importance of supporting fellow Filipinos, especially those hardest hit by the pandemic and other crises. He underscored that programs like TUPAD are essential as they provide both financial assistance and valuable skills that help beneficiaries rebuild their lives. Go encouraged all beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity, emphasizing that their efforts benefit not only their families but also their communities.
A total of 633 displaced workers received snacks, vitamins, facemasks, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs from the senator. Some recipients also received shoes and a cellphone.
Senator Go lauded the officials of Magdiwang, Cajidiocan, and San Fernando for their dedication to providing livelihood assistance to their constituents.
