The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in Region IV has announced the temporary suspension of the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate of M/V Maria Helena.
According to MARINA, the PSSC shall be suspended when the “ship has been involved in maritime casualties and incidents”.
While the vessel is under suspension, it will remain inoperable until it is deemed fit to resume operations. This measure aims to prevent any risks or hazards that may compromise the safety of those on board or pose harm to the marine ecosystem.
The vessel ran aground in Banton Island, Romblon on July 16, prompting the need for a thorough safety inspection to determine its seaworthiness before the suspension can be lifted.
