Handa ang senado para imbestigahan ang nickel mining project ng Altai Philippines Mining Company (APMC) sa probinsya ng Romblon ayon kay Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri nitong Biyernes ayon sa ulat ng Manila Times.
“If there is a resolution filed, we can do that [in the investigation]. They can approach senators and the senator can file a resolution and the Committee on Senate environment and natural resources can hear that. It is up to the committee to hear that. We are open to any environmental degradation claims that need to be investigated,” pahayag ni Zubiri sa mga mamahayag.
Ang mga pahayag ni Zubiri ay kasabay na panawagan sa dalawang kongreso ng bansa na imbestigahan ang nangyayari sa isla.
Dagdag ni Zubiri, pabor siya sa sustainable mining na bahagi ng programa ng Marcos administration para sa muling pagbuhay ng industriya.
“I believe that there should be sustainable mining. You know the world today, we use batteries all over the world and the Philippines is one of the richest sources of nickel which is used for batteries. We just need to make sure that we mine responsibly and increase the taxation so that it can go back to the communities,” pahayag nito.
Ngayong Sabado ay ika-12 araw na ng pagbabarikada ng mga Sibuyanon sa Barangay España bilang pagprotesta sa pagmimina ng APMC.
