The observance of the civil registration month is a venue of educating the public on the importance of records in human lives, said the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
MIMAROPA Regional Director Leni Rioflorido, in an interview with PIA Oriental Mindoro during the launching of the 35th Civil Registration Month, said that this initiative is important in educating the public about their rights and responsibilities to register significant life events such as birth, marriage and death.
“Ang kahalagahan ng selebrasyon ng Civil Registration Month ay para maipamalay sa mga mamamayang Pilipino ang kahalagahan ng pagtatalang sibil na dapat silang lahat ay naka rehistro. Ang kanilang kapanganakan, kapag ikinasal at kung may mamatay sa kanilang pamilya,” she said.
Rioflorido added that this celebration aims to raise public awareness about the importance of civil registration, which serves as the foundation for every citizen’s identity in the country.
She stressed that an accurate civil registration is also a key to the efficient implementation of government programs and services in the country.
With the theme “Building a Resilient, Agile, and Future-Fit Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System,” various government agencies participated to show support for the celebration. These include the Commission on Population and Development (CPD), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Calapan City Local Government Unit, Philippine Information Agency (PIA), among others.
Throughout February, PSA MIMAROPA is also set to conduct various activities such as mobile registration services, public awareness campaigns and seminars to encourage citizens to ensure their civil registration documents are up-to-date. (JJGS/AS/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro)
