The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched the Electronic Local Government Unit (eLGU) system in Odiongan, Romblon, making it the first municipality in the MIMAROPA region and the fourth nationwide to adopt this innovative system for delivering government services.
DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin, in a video message, highlighted the benefits of the eLGU system. She explained that it offers citizens real-time, 24/7 access to vital services such as business permits and licensing, requests for birth, death, and marriage certificates, and the issuance of community tax certificates.
“The system is fully integrated with the verified eGovPH app, providing seamless single sign-on access for hassle-free transactions,” Delfin said. She also noted that transactions through the eLGU system can be paid via mobile wallets, enhancing convenience for users.
The eLGU system aligns with Republic Act 11032, also known as the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, emphasizing streamlined processes and efficient service delivery.
Odiongan Mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic expressed gratitude to the DICT for introducing the eLGU system, describing it as an advancement for the municipality. She announced plans to establish an information desk in the municipal hall lobby, equipped with free-to-use tablets and computers, to assist clients with eLGU transactions.
The mayor also expressed pride in Odiongan being the fourth locality in the country to adopt the eLGU system. She emphasized that the platform would be particularly beneficial for residents in remote areas, those living outside the province, and even overseas Odionganons who can now transact with the LGU without traveling to the municipal hall.
Initially, the eLGU system will facilitate transactions with the Business Permits and Licensing Office, Local Civil Registrar, and Treasurer’s Office. Mayor Fabic assured the public that additional services would be integrated into the system in the future.
