The municipality of Odiongan has officially accepted the bid to host the Romblon Provincial Athletic Meet next year. The news was confirmed to Romblon News Network by Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic on Saturday.
“Yes tinanggap na ng LGU Odiongan ang pag host. Past few years ay outside of Tablas ang prov’l meet at ngayon lang babalik sa Odiongan since 2019,” according to Fabic.
At least 4,000 visitors and delegates are expected to be in Odiongan to join the event on the last week of January or the first week of February next year.
“At least 4,000 visitors and delegates yan from 14 Units from all over the province. Siyempre ineexpect natin ang positive impact sa ekonomiya ng Odiongan kasi yung 4,000 visitors ay kakain, papasyal, etc,” the mayor added.
Fabic said that preparation for the event is already in place.
“In the next months, mag inspect na ng playing venues and mag identify ng mga kailangan ng physical improvements sa facilities at accommodations,” according to Fabic.
The Romblon Provincial Athletic Meet is an annual sports competition organized by the Department of Education that brings together student-athletes from various towns in the province to compete in sports like athletics, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and more.
It serves as a key event for young athletes to qualify for regional and national competitions, such as the MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Association Meet.
