With the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) in the province of Romblon just around the corner, new and questionable social media pages have emerged on Facebook, raising concerns about their credibility and intentions.
These pages, which have surfaced just days before the official filing period, have begun sharing unoriginal information and content. The sudden appearance of these outlets has led to speculation regarding their possible use in spreading disinformation or influencing public opinion during the upcoming local elections.
As of now, Romblon News Network cannot independently verify the identity or intentions of the administrators behind these pages; however, some of these pages feature older posts related to the 2022 elections.
Romblon has a few trusted and recognized local news outlets, as officially acknowledged by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Romblon. These outlets include Romblon News Network (RNN), Romblon Sun, Radyo Natin Odiongan, and Radyo Natin Looc.
Any information sourced outside these platforms should be critically examined and verified, especially during the sensitive election period.
The Commission on Elections earlier said that they are prepared to protect the integrity of next year’s national polls from disinformation and fake news.
