Vice President Sara Duterte has stepped down as the Secretary of the Department of Education and Vice Chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), Malacañang announced on Wednesday.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil confirmed that Duterte tendered her resignation at 2:21 p.m. on Wednesday. Despite her resignation from these key roles, Duterte will continue to serve as Vice President.
Garafil mentioned that Duterte did not provide a reason for her resignation.
“She declined to give a reason why. She will continue to serve as Vice President. We thank her for her service,” Garafil said, noting that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has accepted her resignation from the Cabinet.
Duterte was appointed as education secretary by President Marcos upon their assumption of office on June 30, 2022. Both Marcos and Duterte ran and won convincingly under the UniTeam Coalition in the 2022 elections.
