The Commission on Population and Development (CPD)-MIMAROPA joins the rest of the nation in celebrating the natal day of the 100 millionth symbolic pinoys. Six (6) symbolic Filipinos residing in the Provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan are in the best state of wellness with their families and busily attending school just like any other kid their age.
The recurring banner theme “Bigyang Halaga ang Bawat Pinoy sa Pag-unlad, Ngayon at Bukas” and this year’s sub-theme “Sa ika-9 na taon, patuloy na pagpapaunlad sa kanilang pangkalahatang kagalingan at ng buong Pamilya!” seek to heighten public engagement with the population and development nexus embodied by the existence and circumstances the symbolic pinoys find themselves in. Together with the local government units,CPD-MIMAROPA strives to monitor the blooming of this cohort of children over time suggestive of the government’s overall capacity to respond to the changing needs of the population.
“This significant day also advocates the assimilation of population characteristics into local development initiatives to ensure that the health, education, and social wellbeing of our symbolic children in the region remain robust until they reach the age of economic productivity,” CPD MIMAROPA Regional Director Reynaldo O. Wong said.
Services on proper nutrition, comprehensive health care, quality education, and other socio-economic support systems are necessary for the total development of a child. The needs of a child take paramount consideration in addition to increasing the Filipino family’s purchasing capacity.
“Thankfully, the respective LGUs where these symbolic pinoys reside, still commit themselves to monitor and support these children so they could contribute to the development of the region later on,” RD Wong added.
The natal day of these six children fosters a positive atmosphere of emphasizing each child’s potential and investing in the children’s well-being, education, and opportunity towards a “Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay.”
In 2014, the Philippines reached the 100 million mark in terms of population, a demographic event symbolized by the babies born on July 27, 2014, at 12:06 AM. These symbolic babies represent the growth and development of the population and serve as a reminder of the need for a collective approach in raising these children for them to become productive citizens.
